DIAGNOSIS SOS, TODAY AT 2:00 p.m. Dr. Diane Blum ASCO Editor-in-Chief
The holiday season is a time of celebration and togetherness with family and friends, but for people with cancer, it can be a difficult time of year. Patients and their loved ones tend to feel “out of step” from the rest of the world during the holidays. There are resources out there that can help. ASCO’s patient information website Cancer.Net contains a variety of information for patients and family members on everything from travel limitations and health precautions in the winter to relaxation techniques, and even shopping for the perfect gift! Holiday shopping and gift-giving can be stressful and difficult for people who have loved ones with cancer. Many caregivers and family members feel compelled to purchase gifts like medical supplies, which only further remind patients of their illness during the holidays. Cancer.Net contains suggestions for various gifts that reflect who the person is apart from the cancer – like tickets to a sporting event featuring the person’s favorite team!
